PROVERBS 24 - Life Application
To encourage you to continue on the path to being a Proverbs Man, Proverbs 24:5-6 state:
5 A wise man has great power
and a man of knowledge increases strength;
6 for waging war you need guidance
and for victory many advisors."
The Life Application Bible has the following footnotes:
24:5 We exercise regularly and eat well to build our strength, but do we take equal pains to develop wisdom? Because wisdom is a vital part of strength, it pays to attain it.
24:6 In any major decision, we make concerning college, marriage, career, children, etc. it is not a sign of weakness to ask for advice. Instead it is foolish not to ask. Find good advisors before making any big decision. Ask those who love you (parents, family); ask God. They can help you expand your alternatives and evaluate your choices. Then listen. Why repeat the mistakes of others when you can learn from them.
10 If you falter in times of trouble
how small is your strength.
The footnote reads: Times of trouble can be useful. They can show you who you really are, what kind of character you have developed. In addition, they can help you grow stronger. When Jeremiah questioned God because of the trouble he faced, God asked how he ever expected to face big challenges if the little ones tired him out (Jeremiah 12:5). Don't complain about your problems. The trouble you face today is training you to be strong for the more difficult situations you will face in the future.
Many men read Psalms also with Proverbs. Psalms praise God and honor Him! Psalm 91 reads:
"Because he loves me" says the Lord, I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
He will call upon me and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him,
With long life will I satisfy him
and show him my salvation."
God hears the prayers of those who love Him and honor Him! What a promise! A promise we can count on in times of trouble, as we humble ourselves and honor God.
I hope this message has encouraged you to read Proverbs, a few Psalms, and more each day. The Bible is our roadmap for daily living - don't leave home without out. Keep one in the car.
