PROVERBS 23 - Treasures in Heaven
There are several verses that contrast with today's society.
4 "Do not wear yourself out to get rich;
have the wisdom to show restraint.
5 Cast but a glance at riches and they are gone,
for they will surely sprout wings
and fly off to the sky like an eagle."
Husbands and wives wear themselves out to get ahead, to get a new car, a bigger house, a cruise, and other temporary things. Jesus tells us to store up our treasures in heaven for where our treasure is that is where our hearts will be also (Matthew 6:20). God wants our hearts; it is that simple.
12 "Apply your heart to instruction
and your ears to words of knowledge."
19 "Listen, my son, and be wise,
and keep your heart on the right path."
It is a loud world today; everyone is talking, few are listening. Yet it is when we listen that we learn. Listening is an art few learn. Listening is a sign of strength, not weakness. But most important, God wants us to listen to Him. We must make time to read His Holy Word, to determine if we are on His path, to listen to His directions, and to change course as required. God wants us to draw nearer to Him - that means we must spend time with Him. He will not make us spend time with Him; He wants that to be our decision.
