PROVERBS 18 - Words vs THE WORD
4 "The words of a man's mouth are deep waters,
but the fountain of wisdom is a bubbling brook."
Deep waters are cold, dark, and stagnant; a bubbling brook is alive and filled with life.
7 "A fool's mouth is his undoing,
and his lips are a snare to his soul."
James 3 states that although the tongue is a small part of the body, it is like a rudder to a ship and it can be like a small spark that ignites a forest fire. James states the tongue corrupts the whole person; no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. Out of the same mouth comes praise to God and cursing. To control our tongue we need the power of the Holy Spirit to reside in our hearts to purify our heart and mind.
21 "The tongue has the power of life and death,
and those who love it will eat its fruit."
We must chose our words wisely for we must live with the results of our words. Do we build up others or do we destroy others? Do our words show that we are men of integrity who honor God?
In contrast: "The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe." One word that has infinite power to save us.
The Gospel of John 1:1 says, "In the beginning was THE WORD, and THE WORD was with God, and THE WORD was God......THE WORD became flesh and made His dwelling among us.....to all who received Him, to those who believe in His name, He gave the right to become children of God"
