PROVERBS 16 - Planning and Trusting God

1 To man belong the plans of the heart,
but from the LORD comes the reply of the tongue.
2 All a man's ways seem innocent to him,
but motives are weighed by the LORD.
3 Commit to the LORD whatever you do,
and your plans will succeed.

Verses 1-3 are a powerful statement of faith and trust in God. The Life Application Bible commentary states:

"16:1 In doing God's will there must be a partnership between our efforts and God's control. He wants us to use our minds, to seek the advice of others, and to plan. Nevertheless, the results are up to Him. Planning then, helps us to act God's way. As you live for him, ask for guidance as you plan, and then act on you plan as you trust Him…. We must maintain a delicate balance, trusting God as if everything depended on Him, while working as if everything depended on us.

16:2 People can rationalize anything if they have no standards for judging right and wrong. Before putting any plan into action, ask yourself three questions: (1) Is this plan in harmony with God's truth? (2) Will it work under real-life conditions? (3) Is my attitude pleasing to God?"

These are good questions to ask yourself before you speak or do anything that may offend God. If your words and actions honor God and the Ten Commandments, God will bless you. Your plans will succeed.

16 How much better to get wisdom than gold,
to choose understanding rather than silver!

Verse 16 - "Understanding" is defined in Proverbs 9:10 as "knowledge of the Holy One". Better than anything else!

20 Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers,
and blessed is he who trusts in the LORD.

Verse 20 - We must learn to trust God by turning over our lives, piece by piece, day by day, hour by hour, moment by moment.

This Chapter is not only for all men but is also for all businesses. This Proverb talks about commitment to the Lord, being humble, being honest, planning, trusting God, instructing others, and being patient. Enjoy the words of this Proverb, savor them, write them on the tablet of your heart.

Our Prayer

Father, we come to You seeking Your will, Your direction - not ours. Please help us to hear Your instructions; Please write
them on our hearts as we

in You.
This we ask in
Jesus' name. Amen.
