PROVERBS 15 - The Pursuit of Righteousness

What a powerful Proverb to lead us this day.  It has its beginning at the end. Verse 31 says:

31 The fear of the Lord teaches a man wisdom
And humility comes before honor.

The respect we have for God allows us to see the truth in wisdom. If we are far from God, we cannot grasp God's wisdom. We will be filled with worldly wisdom instead.   Look at verses 8, 9, and 26.

8 The LORD detests the sacrifice of the wicked,
But the prayer of the upright pleases HIM.
9 The LORD detests the way of the wicked,
But HE loves those who pursue righteousness.
26 The LORD detests the thoughts of the wicked,
But those of the pure are pleasing to HIM.

The Lord detests the offering of the wicked, the way of the wicked, and even the thoughts of the wicked. Even a person who is willing to offer something to God; God detests it. He detests the wicked man's thoughts and ways. But in contrast, a prayer of an upright person pleases Him. God loves those who pursues righteousness, and even the thoughts of the pure are pleasing to Him. God wants us to pursue righteousness, to be pure, to seek ways to bring honor and glory to His name.

10 Stern discipline awaits him who leaves the path;
He who hates correction will die.

In verse 10, God warns that if we leave the path of the righteous, He will discipline us. If we accept His correction, we will live and we will be home among the wise (V 31).

In this Proverb, God tells us the way to live for example:

1 A gentle answer turns away wrath
7 The lips of the wise spread knowledge
30 A cheerful look brings joy to the heart,
and good news brings health to the bones

Let us be a light to those in darkness by sharing God's wisdom
