PROVERBS 9 - Knowledge of the Holy One
9:10 "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding."
This verse defines "understanding" as the "knowledge of the Holy One". Isn't that true? As we walk closer with God; our perspective changes. We gain a unique understanding.
Men seek knowledge for their jobs and for pleasure but do they seek the knowledge of God (understanding)? God reveals the history of man - the future of mankind - in the Bible. God is timeless, so He sees the beginning and the end. Knowing the future allows Christians to go through this world with less worry for they know their place in eternity.
How does one obtain the knowledge of God? May I suggest the four roots of Christian growth:
1. The Word - read and study the Bible*
2. Prayer - talk with God, praise Him, acknowledge Him, share with Him
3. Fellowship - be with other Christians in study
4. Witness - Let the Holy Spirit open your heart to others
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom". This is the recognition that God is our Creator; we are the created. God is also Judge; we will be judged. From The Purpose Driven Life, Pastor Rick Warren states that God may ask each of us two questions:
First, "What did you do with My Son, Jesus Christ?" Did you accept what Jesus did for you? Did you learn to love and trust him?
"I am the way and the truth and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6
Second, "What did you do with what I gave you?" What did you do with your life - all the gifts, talents, opportunities, energy, relationships, and resources that God gave you? Did you spend them on yourself or use them for the purposes God made you for?
